Pineapple is one of the old-school flavours, so when we went looking for one we did not settle for the first we found. We have been going for years without a pineapple bait, and this is why: the search was for a flavour that does more than smell right. The one we landed on is made for human consumption, the kind used to give sweets and drinks their pure pineapple taste, and it carries a full taste profile rather than only an aroma. Around it we built the whole bait, from the ingredient structure out, until the sweet-sour balance was where we wanted it. Testing is about to begin.
- 01A flavour made for human consumption, not just for bait
- 02A full taste profile, not only an aroma
- 03Lightly rolled, and stays on the hair for up to 36 hours
How it came about
Pineapple has been an old-school carp flavour for as long as most anglers can remember, which made its absence from our range a fair question. The answer was that nothing we tried was good enough to put our name on. Rather than pick the best of a weak field, we kept looking, and ended up well outside the bait industry: at a flavour made for human consumption, used to give sweets and drinks their pure pineapple character. That one does something most bait flavours do not, which is carry a taste as well as a smell. Everything else about the bait was then built around it instead of the other way round. The test phases are about to start.
